What is an EnergyBridge?

Most people on the Gold Coast buy a battery for one reason: use more of their own solar at home, especially through the 4–9pm window when everyone’s back and the panels have clocked off.

That’s bill work. Self-use. Peak cover.

Then the first storm rolls through and the question flips.

Why are the lights still out?

Because a battery sized for the evening bill is not automatically a whole-home backup system. Two related jobs. Two different outcomes. Just clarity.

When the grid goes dark

A backup gateway is just the switch that decides whether your house runs from the street or from your battery when the grid goes dark. Some hybrids (including Sungrow SH15/20/25T) already do that job inside the inverter when wired and commissioned for backup. Other jobs use a separate gateway, or a small switchboard module like Sungrow EnergyBridge. We’ll tell you which path your board needs on the design sit — no jargon test. Just clarity.

What is an EnergyBridge?

Sungrow EnergyBridge is a mini backup module that clips onto a normal DIN rail in the main switchboard.

• EB80S — single-phase homes
• EB80T — three-phase homes

In one small unit it covers the jobs that used to need a scatter of parts: changeover, protection, metering, bypass, and current sensing. Transfer is fast (about 10 milliseconds on Sungrow’s published figures) so everyday loads don’t drop every time the street blinks.

It is not WiNet. It is not EyeM4. Those are monitoring and comms. EnergyBridge is backup hardware in the board.

And it is not magic kilowatts. It does not invent power your inverter and battery don’t have. It helps the changeover path do its job cleanly.

How it sits with Untapped Energy’s Sungrow hybrid + SBH

A package you’ll see on our Gold Coast cards is the three-phase Sungrow SH25T hybrid + SBH400 — about 40 kWh of battery storage (kilowatt-hours for how long it can run — not “40 kW”).

Important product truth:

The SH15 / SH20 / SH25T hybrids already include a built-in ~63 A whole-home bypass path. When that path is wired and commissioned properly, you can get whole-home backup without a separate EnergyBridge on many jobs.

EnergyBridge is the neater / higher-current (~80 A) DIN-rail option when the switchboard is tight, or when that path is the cleaner install for the site.

Usually you do not need EnergyBridge just because you bought an SH25T. We pick the right path on the site visit. Just clarity.

Honest package note

The Google FROM $29,990 Sungrow package is for cutting the evening bill with backup OFF. Real backup (and any EnergyBridge / switchboard kit) is designed and priced on your job card. Untapped Energy won’t pretend it’s in the FROM$.

Who should care

Bill-first homes
Start on self-use. Get the 4–9pm under control. Add backup later if you want it — as long as the hardware path allows it.

Blackout-sensitive homes
Work from home, priority loads, hate sitting in the dark — price backup on day one. Essential circuits or whole-home: name it on the quote.

Larger three-phase places
SH25T + SBH territory. More load, more reason to be honest about ratings and what’s actually on the backup path.

Soft next step
